The 1849 is a scarcer date in the Liberty Head quarter eagle series whose rarity is little known outside of the specialist community.
This nicely toned Choice EF shows rich reddish-gold colors at the periphery. The surfaces are clean and the aforementioned color makes the eye appeal well above average for the date and grade.
A PCGS EF45 example with CAC approval in an old holder brought $1,146 as Heritage 6/16: 8345.
CAC has approved three in this grade with nine finer.
