UNDERVALUED 1847 QUARTER EAGLE IN PCGS/CAC AU55

The 1847 is one of a number of Philadelphia quarter eagles from the 1840's which is scarce and undervalued. It is not often seen above the AU53 to AU55 grades and when available it tends to come stripped.

This choice, green-gold example shows pleasing natural color and is lightly worn. The surfaces show only the slightest marks and there is a good deal of dirt in the protected areas.

No PCGS AU55 with CAC approval 1847 quarter eagle has sold at auction. The last PCGS AU55 realized $1,028 as Heritage 6/16: 8343 and it showed odd orange color.

CAC has approved four in this grade with 13 higher.
