The Carson City half eagles from this decade are far more available than their counterparts from the 1870′s and the 1880′s, especially in high grades. The 1890-CC is available in the lower Uncirculated grades but it becomes scarce in MS63 and it is very rare above this.
This choice, frosty example show pleasing natural pale rose, green-gold and buttery yellow colors. It is well struck for the issue with just a bit of weakness at the centers and the surfaces display a pleasing satiny luster. There are just a few too many small ticks in the left obverse field to grade this coin an MS63 and there is a small mint-made grease stain between stars five and six.
There are no auction records for 1890-CC half eagles graded MS62+. In MS63, this is a $5,000-6,000 coin.
For most collectors, this will be an ideal high end Uncirculated type representative of a Carson City half eagle.
