SCARCE 1884 QUARTER EAGLE

Only 1,950 business strikes were made and while not as rare as this low figure would suggest, the 1884 is (along with the 1883) one of the single most undervalued Liberty Head quarter eagles.

This semi-prooflike example was recently located in Europe and it shows very attractive natural green-gold central color framed by fiery reddish hues at the borders. There are some light handling marks as one would expect but the appearance is exceptional for the date and grade.

There are just two auction records for this date in NGC MS61 in the last three+ years and each was for $1,695; once in June 2015 and once in June 2013. The present example is a much more attractive coin.
