NICE SLIDER 1847-D QUARTER EAGLE
Variety 9-N.
The 1847-D is among the best made and most available quarter eagles from Dahlonega, a circumstance which makes it popular with type collectors. It is scarce in properly graded AU58 and rare in Uncirculated.
This fresh-to-the-market example is well struck and very lustrous with straw-gold color on the obverse; the reverse shows deeper hues. There is just a small amount of wear and it is mostly confined to the high spots on the obverse. The surfaces are choice save for a thin old scrape behind the eagle’s neck.
Only two PCGS AU58 1847-D quarter eagles have sold at auction since the Summer of 2010. The most recent APR is $4,994 for Stacks Bowers 2015 ANA: 10188. A nice example in an old green holder brought $6,325 as Heritage 5/12: 4789.
This coin would be perfect for the collector who wishes to own a single choice, high grade Dahlonega quarter eagle.
