The 1846, like many of the Philadelphia quarter eagles from this era, is scarce and undervalued. It is not often seen in the higher AU grades and it is rare in Uncirculated, despite a few nice examples having appeared on the market in the last few years.
This frosty slider shows light orange-gold color and has little wear on the high spots. There are a few small ticks in the fields but this doesn’t keep this from being a high end coin with good eye appeal for the date and grade.
The last NGC AU58 1846 quarter eagle to sell at auction was Heritage 8/13: 22911 which brought $1,704. This coin was not approved by CAC.
CAC has approved eight in this grade with five finer.
