RARE KEY DATE 1845-O QUARTER EAGLE
Only 4,000 were struck and the 1845-O is the undisputed key date in the New Orleans quarter eagle series. It is not often seen in collector grades and even less often with choice surfaces and natural color.
This fresh-to-the-market example is an extremely high end coin for the grade and it offers strong claims to an EF40. It shows natural russet hues with some deepening of the color at the edges and the surfaces are free of significant marks. A shallow planchet depression on the reverse below OF is mint-made and seen on most examples.
No PCGS VF35 has sold at auction since January 2004. Three non-CAC NGC EF40’s have been auctioned since 2011 and all realized $2,585.
An affordable example of this New Orleans rarity.
CAC has approved this one coin in VF35 with 11 finer.
