The 1845-D is one of the more available Dahlonega quarter eagles in terms of overall rarity but it becomes scarce in the higher AU grades and it is very rare in properly graded Mint State. As recently as a decade ago, there were fewer than four or five known in Uncirculated but new discoveries and gradeflation have swelled that number to around double the amount.
This very lustrous piece is sharply impressed in light green gold. There is just the slighest amount of wear and friction seen on the high spots and some luster breaks are present in the obverse fields.
The last APR for a PCGS AU58 1845-D quarter eagle was Heritage 10/11: 4658 at $4,456.
