The 1842-O is among the rarer New Orleans quarter eagles. While the population figures at both services are high for EF-graded coins, very few of these are well struck, choice and original.
This is a very clean, original example with deep orange-gold and green color on the obverse and reverse. The strike is a touch soft at the centers but is still better than average for the issue.
A non-CAC PCGS EF45 example realized $1,528 as Heritage 4/13: 5490.
CAC has approved two in this grade with 11 finer.
