VERY CHOICE 1842-O QUARTER EAGLE WITH CAC APPROVAL

Most of the remaining 1842-O quarter eagles grade below AU50 and Choice About Uncirculated examples especially with nice color and choice surfaces are quite rare. This date is very rare in Uncirculated with fewer than 10 known, nearly all of which are in the MS60 to MS62 range.

This fresh-to-the-market example is notable for its exceptional strong strike and for its memorable deep caramel coloration. In fact, this is among the more original 1842-O quarter eagles I have seen and it is highly likely this piece has never been tampered with in any fashion. he eye appeal is well above average.

The comparable Newman V: 3213 coin also graded NGC/CAC AU58, sold for $5,288. There are auction records for PCGS/CAC AU58′s in excess of $7,000.

The 1842-O is the third scarcest New Orleans quarter eagle in high grades and this piece is far and away the finest quality available on the market for less than $7,500.

CAC has approved seven in this grade with but one finer (MS61).
