COLLECTOR GRADE 1843-O SMALL LETTERS HALF EAGLE
Small Letters variety.
Varieties of 1843-O half eagles exist with Small Letters and Large Letters. The former is at least two times scarcer than the latter and it is also much harder to locate than the 1843-C and 1843-D issues.
This well-defined medium orange-gold example has very clean surfaces and excellent overall eye appeal for the grade. Some flatness of strike can be seen on the talons.
Just three PCGS 45 examples of this variety have been auctioned since 2009.
It is very hard to locate PCGS straight-graded EF 1843-O Small Letters half eagles for less than $2,000.
