CONDITION CENSUS 1852-O QUARTER EAGLE

Despite a seemingly high certified population, properly graded Uncirculated 1852-O are rare and this date is very rare in MS62. In fact, PCGS has still graded just one coin (an MS63) higher.

This is among the best 1852-O quarter eagles I have seen with a bold, even strike and rich natural yellow-gold color with medium orange overtones. A few light lines in the right obverse field narrowly preclude a higher grade but this is a coin which I could see in a 62+ holder some day.

Two PCGS MS62 examples of this date have sold at auction in the last two years and these brought $6,463 (2/17) and $7,638 (9/16), respectively.

There is just one 1852-O quarter eagle graded higher than this at PCGS and it is off the market ina tightly-held collection.

CAC has approved this one coin in MS62 with none finer.
