GEM PCGS AU58 1844-D QUARTER EAGLE WITH CAC APPROVAL

Variety 5-I.

The 1844-D is among the more available Dahlonega quarter eagles in higher grades. It becomes very scarce in properly graded AU58 and it rare in Uncirculated as are all quarter eagles from this mint.

This example is a "gem" for the grade with superb deep natural golden-russet hues seen on both sides. The strike is very sharp, especially at the centers, and this is despite some unusually bold clashmarks seen on the obverse and the reverse. The overall eye appeal is exceptional.

No PCGS AU58 1844-D quarter eagle has sold at auction since early 2006 and no CAC approved AU58 has ever sold at auction.

This would make the perfect type example for the collector searching for a single higher grade Dahlonega quarter eagle for their collection.

CAC has approved four in this grade with five finer.
