GEM SLIDER PCGS/CAC AU58 1883-CC DOUBLE EAGLE

The 1883-CC is one of the more available double eagles from the Carson City mint. It is moderately scarce in AU58 but properly graded examples with enough eye appeal to garner a CAC sticker are not easily located.

This is a textbook "Gem Slider" with the appearance of a fully Uncirculated coin and nearly full mint luster below natural medium yellow-gold color. The surfaces are very clean and this coin lacks the excessive abrasions seen on most surviving 1883-CC twenties.

The last three PCGS/CAC AU58 1883-CC double eagles to sell at auction have realized $12,925 (in 2016), $8,813 (in 2015) and $9,983 (in 2014).

This is the best available quality for this date at less than $10,000 and its great eye appeal makes it a good candidate for the type collector seeking a single high quality CC double eagle.

CAC has approved 29 in this grade with 10 finer.
