CAC APPROVED 1874-S HALF EAGLE

Of the 16,000 struck, there are likely fewer than 125 1874-S half eagles known. This date is generally seen in EF grades and almost never with good eye appeal.

In my opinion, this coin should be in an EF40 holder as it shows "EF" detail on both sides. The color is a choice, natural russet and green-gold shade while the surfaces are free of detracting marks. As always, the mintmark is small and easy to overlook.

The last PCGS VF35 to sell realized $1,645 as Heritage 1/16: 8982; it was not approved by CAC.

Good value at under $2,000.

CAC has approved this one coin in VF35 with another eight finer.
