165 Proofs were struck.  Fewer than half are known today and most have been dipped or processed to the point that they show no character whatsoever.

Proof 1913 gold coins have a unique dark, fine sandblast matte finish that is most similar to that seen on the 1912 Proofs. This example is one of the few known Proof 1913 quarter eagles that has never been cleaned or processed. It shows very deep green-gold color and it would grade at least PR65 if not PR66 were it not for a fine old scratch on the obverse just before star eight that travels into the bonnet.

Proof Indian Head gold is very undervalued. Many buyers shy away from it due to the many problem coins in slabs. This piece is as original as any you will find, and it represents the best available quality for less than $20,000.

There has not been a PR64 example of the 1913 quarter eagle sold at auction since 2003 and only three since 2000.

CAC has approved two in this grade with eight finer.
