The 1852 is, along with the 1851, one of the most available early dates in the Type One Liberty Head series. It is very common in grades up to and including AU55 but it becomes scarce in properly graded AU58 and it is very scarce in Uncirculated. For most collectors, a nice AU58 is exactly the grade which is perfect for their date or type set.
This lustrous slider shows light wear only on the high spots and has very clean surfaces which are nearly free of marks. Both sides show a blend of rose, green-gold and orange hues with the obverse a bit darker than the reverse.
A comparable quality NGC AU58 with CAC approval sold for $4,708 as Heritage 8/13: 5175.
A good type coin for the collector seeking a single high grade Type One double eagle; an MS61 example of this date is worth over $11,000.
CAC has approved 20 in this grade with 17 finer.
