The 1851 is one of the more available Type One double eagles. It is not hard to find in AU55 but it is not readily available with original color and choice surfaces.
This deep orange-gold example has a pronounced “Euro” appearance with darker color on the highlights. It is lightly worn and basically choice for the grade with a totally natural appearance.
Three non-CAC NGC AU55 examples have sold at auction thus far in 2014 and all three realized $3,525.
