CONDITIONALLY RARE PCGS/CAC MS62 1894-O HALF EAGLE
Variety 1.
The 1894-O is numismatically significant as the final Liberty Head half eagle from New Orleans and it is one of just three With Motto issues from this mint. It is decidedly scarcer than the 1893-O and it is nearly impossible to find in grades higher than MS62.
This light green-gold example is slightly prooflike with the obverse more reflective than the reverse. Both sides are uncommonly free of marks with just a few shallow scuffs seen on both sides.
The last PCGS MS62 1894-O half eagle to sell at auction realized $3,525 as Heritage 6/14: 5718; it was not approved by CAC.
I have not handled a significantly better 1894-O half eagle than this and I feel that this is an issue which remains overlooked and undervalued in higher grades.
CAC has handled three in this grade with none finer.
