COLLECTOR QUALITY 1879-CC HALF EAGLE

The 1879-CC is the most available CC half eagle from the 1870's. It is seen most often in the EF and lower AU grades. For most collectors, this is not a date which justifies a large expenditure.

This is a nicely toned example with soft natural russet hues on both sides. A small patch of marks can be seen in the middle of the right obverse field.

Only two PCGS EF45 1879-CC half eagles have sold at auction since 2011 and both sales occurred in September 2016. One realized $3,544 while the other, in an old holder, sold for a rousing $7,045.

It has become very difficult to find a pleasing PCGS-graded 1879-CC half eagle priced at less than $4,000.
