SCARCE, UNDERVALUED PCGS/CAC AU53 1874-S HALF EAGLE
In a series replete with undervalued issues, it would be hard to imagine a more overlooked issue than the 1874-S half eagle. Only 125 or so are known and this date is genuinely rare in the higher AU grades; it remains unknown in Uncirculated.
This lightly abraded, rose and russet toned example is well defined and it has excellent eye appeal for the issue. As usual, the mintmark is small and very faint.
The only other CAC approved PCGS AU53 1874-S half eagle brought $3,738 as Heritage 7/10: 4679.
This is an excellent value for the collector who appreciates true rarity.
