AFFORDABLE 1874-CC HALF EAGLE

Housed in an old green label holder.

The 1874-CC is the most available Carson City half eagle struck prior to 1879. It is usually seen in the VF35-EF45 range and it becomes rare in About Uncirculated.

From the standpoint of sharpness, this coin grades at least VF35 if not EF40 but I chose to keep it in its old holder as the obverse shows signs of a light, old cleaning. The naked-eye appearance is still quite pleasing.

Only two PCGSVF25 examples of this date have sold at auction since January 2008 with the most recent being this coin in 2013; see below for the full pedigree.

Ex Heritage 2/13: 4869 at $3,290.
