RARE STRONG MINTMARK 1854-C HALF EAGLE WITH CAC APPROVAL

Variety 1; strong mintmark placed far to the left.

From the standpoint of appearance rarity, the 1854-C is one of the hardest half eagles from this mint to locate. This is especially true with a sharp mintmark as many of the choice, original examples of this date are Variety 2 coins with faint mintmarks,

This is a pristine, ultra-dirty coin with deep rich yellow-gold color contrasted by dirt in the recesses on both sides. The surfaces are free of significant marks and were the strike sharper at the centers, I would have no problems with this coin being in an AU50 or even an AU53 holder.

The only other PCGS/CAC EF45 1854-C half eagle sold at auction for $3,525 as Heritage 6/16: 5322 and the present example shows at least five points more luster and better surfaces.

An important coin for the knowledgeable Charlotte half eagle specialist.

CAC has approved two in this grade with only three finer.
