CAC APPROVED AU50 1843-D HALF EAGLE

Medium D; Variety 10-G.

The 1843-D is one of the more available Dahlonega half eagles. It is seen reasonably often in the lower AU grades but most of these coins have been scrubbed and CAC-worthy pieces are not common at all.

This sharply struck example is notable for its dark, even natural green-gold color which is seen on both sides. There are scattered old marks consistent with the grade and the most notable of these is located on the reverse below F in OF and around the beak.

No CAC approved AU50 1843-D Medium D half eagle has ever sold at auction. The most recent record of sale for a non-CAC NGC AU50 is Heritage 4/16: 27807 which went for $2,703.

An affordable but well above-average D mint half eagle.

CAC has approved 4 in this grade with 9 finer.
