AFFORDABLE COLLECTOR GRADE 1839-D HALF EAGLE

Variety 2-A.

The 1839-D is one of two one-year type half eagles from the Dahlonega mint and like its counterpart the 1838-D it is extremely popular.

This piece shows extensive but even wear and it is possible that it was carried as a pocket piece for many years. The obverse is a full VF with good overall detail while the reverse is more worn especially on the rim from 10:00 to 12:00. Both sides show no marks of note and possess nice natural deep olive color.

No F15 1839-D half eagle has sold at auction since early 2005 when a piece realized $1,955. A cleaned VF20 in an older holder brought $2,585 as Stacks Bowers 2013 ANA: 5163.

This coin offers alot of bang for the buck and it is both affordable and cosmetically appealing.

CAC has approved two in this grade with four finer.
