CAC APPROVED PCGS AU50 1809/8 HALF EAGLE

BD-1, R-3.

Housed in an old green label holder and likely an AU53 by today's standards.

The 1809/8 is an available issue in the Bust Left half eagle series struck from 1807 through 1812. It is the only variety known for the year and it is hard to find in the AU grades with nice color and choice surfaces.

This piece is well struck and lustrous with nice golden-orange colors which deepen at the obverse border. There is excellent detail at the centers with nearly full hair and feathers. A few old marks in the lower left obverse field limit the grade. This is an attractive coin for the grade.

The last PCGS AU50 1809/8 half eagle to sell at auction brought $8,625 as Stacks Bowers 2011 ANA: 9356. No CAC approved pieces in AU50 have been auctioned.

This is a nice piece for the date or the the type collector.

This is the only AU50 example of this ate to receive approval at CAC; 39 others in higher grades have been approved.
