SUPERB GEM 1851-O TRIME

The Three Cent Silver was struck from 1851 through 1873in order to facilitate purchases of postage stamps. The 1851-O is perhaps the most popular issue of the entire denomination due to its status as the only branch mint Trime. Gem 1851-O Three Cent Silvers are sometimes available but not often with beautiful natural color.

This remarkably well-detailed little Gem is notable for its flecked reddish-gold color which is slightly deeper on the obverse than on the reverse. The underlying surfaces are frosty and unmarked. Many 1851-O Trimes graded MS65 or even MS66 show unpleasing dull silvery-grey color and examples with color as rich and as pleasing as on this piece are rarely seen.

This exact coin (in a different PCGS holder) sold for a strong $7,638 as Heritage 3/15: 3027 and a mostly untoned PCGS/CAC MS66+ realized $10,869 as Heritage 10/15: 3079.

This is an important one-year issue which appeals to multiple types of collectors.
