RARE PCGS/CAC MS62 1876 QUARTER EAGLE

Just 4,170 examples of this popular Centennial date were made for circulation and the 1876 quarter eagle is a rare issue in Uncirculated with around a dozen or so known. This nice MS62 likely qualifies as a Condition Census example and it is exceeded in quality by a small number of MS63 to MS64 pieces.

This fresh-to-the-market example is original and choice with rich frosty luster below natural rose and orange-gold color. The strike is a bit soft at the centers and there are a few small scuffs consistent with the grade; the "bar" on Liberty's jawline is mint-made and can be seen on all 1876 quarter eagles.

Another PCGS/CAC MS62 1876 quarter eagle recently sold for $6,463 as Heritage 2/17: 3931 and in my opinion the present piece is nicer.

An important coin for the quarter eagle specialist.

CAC has approved four in this grade with none finer.
