Variety 13-N.
The 1850-D is the most available Dahlonega quarter eagle from this decade but it is much scarcer than the 1843-1848 issues. The 1850-D is especially hard to locate with natural color and choice surfaces.
This piece is exceptional for the grade with totally natural deep russet color over choice, well-detailed surfaces. I have seen inferior 1850-D quarter eagles in AU53 holders.
Only three PCGS AU50 examples have sold at auction since 2012 and none have been stickered by CAC.
This would make an ideal type coin for the collector seeking a single high quality quarter eagle from the Dahlonega mint.
This is the only 1850-D quarter eagle to be approved in this grade; 16 have been approved in higher grades.
