AFFORDABLE COLLECTOR GRADE 1839-D QUARTER EAGLE
Variety 1-A.
The 1839-D is among the more popular quarter eagles as it is the first-year-of-issue from Dahlonega as well as being a one-year type. It has true multiple levels of demand and this makes it eagerly sought-after in all grades.
This evenly worn medium green-gold example has a warm, natural appearance with choice surfaces. What appears to be wear on the reverse is mostly lightness of strike and the detail on the better-struck obverse is close to Extremely Fine. This is a very handsome coin for the grade.
A very similar NGC/CAC VF30 brought $4,230 as Heritage 3/15: 4117. No PCGS VF30 has sold at auction since 2007.
CAC has approved 3 in this grade with 16 finer.
