CHOICE UNCIRCULATED 1835 QUARTER EAGLE

Variety 6, R-2.

The 1835 is common in circulated grades and only marginally scarce in MS60 to MS62. It is rare in properly graded MS63 and very rare finer than this.

Most 1835 quarter eagles are very flat at the centers. This piece is an exception and it shows better detail than normal. The surfaces are bright and frosty with no signs of having been enhanced and they are choice save for some friction in the central right obverse field.

Only two PCGS MS63 1835 quarter eagles have sold at auction since 2004 and the last one brought $10,350 as Heritage 4/10: 3443.

With only for graded higher than this at PCGS--and a nice PCGS MS64 worth over $20,000 if you can find one--this choice MS63 1835 quarter eagle is perfect for a meaningful date set of Classic Head quarter eagles.
