GORGEOUS CHOICE UNCIRCULATED FLAT RIM HIGH RELIEF, NGC/CAC MS63

Flat Rim variety

For collectors with appropriate numismatic budgets, owning a nice High Relief double eagle is a rite of passage. This is America's most beautiful regular issue gold coin and an issue which is the very epitome of a "Trophy Coin."

So-so High Reliefs are a dime a dozen but choice, original pieces which qualify for stickering at CAC are not readily available. Most MS63 and MS64 High Reliefs are "rubby" with friction on the knee and breast of Liberty and many have been enhanced.

This is a really attractive MS63 High Relief with full, frosty luster, a lack of obvious rub and glowing natural orange-gold color. The Flat Rim variety is many times scarcer than the Wire Rim and it seems to almost never come with natural color.

The last CAC approved MS63 Flat Rim variety High Relief to sell at auction was a nice PCGS example which realized $31,725 as Stacks Bowers 6/14: 2738. A PCGS MS63 without CAC approval sold for $25,850 as Heritage 1/17: 6072.

Here is an opportunity to buy a truly nice example of this popular issue at a sensible price point.

CAC has approved 30 in this grade with 95 finer.
