VERY CHOICE PCGS/CAC AU58 1882-CC DOUBLE EAGLE

The 1882-CC is the second scarcest CC double eagle from this decade after the 1885-CC. It is hard to find in properly graded AU58 and only a small percentage of the coins graded as such are choice.

This very fresh example is new to the market and it is the sort of gem slider that makes collectors appreciate the AU58 grade. Both sides show delicate natural rose and medium orange-gold hue over frosty surfaces with just the slightest shallow marks. A tiny copper spot to the right of the date serves as identification.

An NGC/CAC AU58 1882-CC sold for $11,750 as Heritage 1/17: 7155. The last PCGS AU58 to sell at auction realized $10,575 as Stacks Bowers 3/16: 13235 and it wasn't CAC approved.

For all but the most advanced collectors, this 1882-CC should be adequate to represent this popular date.

CAC has approved 15 in this grade with 8 finer.
