SCARCE 1894-O HALF EAGLE GRADED MS62 BY PCGS

Only three With Motto Liberty Head half eagles were made at the New Orleans and the 1894-O is the last of the trio. It is reasonably common in the lowest Uncirculated grades but it is really scarce in properly graded MS62 and very rare in MS63.

Almost all the known MS62 1894-O half eagles have been found in Europe and this is no exception. It is totally original with lovely rich orange-gold color which is vibrant on the obverse and slightly dusky on the reverse. The surfaces are uncommonly lustrous for the issue and there is just one mark on note: a horizontal scrape on Liberty's chin.

Only two PCGS MS62 1894-O half eagles have sold at auction since late 2011 and the last record is Heritage 6/14: 5718 which realized $3,525.

This date is nearly unavailable finer than MS62 (only two are finer at both services) and I have not handled a nice 1894-O half eagle in some time.
