The 1859-D is one of the two most available gold dollars from the Dahlonega mint, along with the 1858-D. In properly graded AU55 to AU58, the 1859-D is a scarce coin and it is rare in Uncirculated.
This is one of the most original 1859-D dollars which I have seen and it shows deep rich reddish-gold and russet colors over lustrous, unmarked surfaces. There is no real wear present and if this coin were in an MS61 holder, you wouldn't think twice.
A PCGS AU58 with CAC approval sold for $4,935 as Heritage 1/16: 6355.
This is the only 1859-D gold dollar to have been graded "58+" by either service and it would be a perfect Type Three type example from this mint.
CAC has approved five in AU58 (with this piece the only one in 58+) with three finer.
