Due to shipwreck finds, the 1865-S is now readily available in Uncirculated grades. Formerly, it was scarce even in the higher AU grades.
This example is clearly not from a shipwreck. It shows nice natural russet color over exceptionally clean surfaces. Some dirt lodged at the central reverse attests to this coin's originality.
No CAC approved EF45 1865-S double eagle has sold at auction in some time. The last NGC EF45 without a sticker brought $2,585 as Heritage 7/16: 4605
