While very common in circulated grades and only scarce in the lowest Uncirculated range, the 1844 half dollar is rare in properly graded MS63, very rare in MS64 and extremely rare in MS65. As with nearly all of the Philadelphia half dollars from this decade, the 1844 is an undervalued date in MS63 and MS64.
This frosty white example shows a light veil of natural gold color which deepens to russet at the obverse border. The strike is sharp and the surfaces lack any significant marks. There are a few grease stains (which are very small) seen on the obverse with the most noticeable one located beneath star four.
The only auction record for this date in MS63+ is for this exact coin which sold for $2,115 as Heritage 6/15: 4501. This coin was tried for an MS64 grade at PCGS but it stayed as is.
If you are looking for a collecting speciality with great value and decent availability, give these No Motto half dollars some strong consideration.
