Coin Description

CHOICE VF 1877-CC HALF EAGLE WITH CAC APPROVAL

Of the 8,680 half eagles made by the Carson City mint in 1877, around 125-150 exist, mostly in lower grades. When VF’s are available, they tend to be problem coins with either stripped surfaces or nasty marks and/or surface issues.

This fresh-to-the-market example is a textbook VF25 with pleasing natural green-gold color and even wear on both sides. The surfaces are smooth and free of detracting marks and the overall appearance is outstanding.

No PCGS VF25 1877-CC has ever sold at auction. An NGC VF30 without CAC approval brought $4,348 as Stacks Bowers 5/12: 4293.

This is the best available quality for this date at under $5,000.

CAC has approved this one coin in VF25 with 12 finer.
