THE "WORST KNOWN" 1866-S MOTTO HALF EAGLE
With Motto variety.
This numismatically significant issue is the first San Francisco half eagle made with the motto IN GOD WE TRUST added to the reverse. A total of 34,920 were made but the survival rate is exceedingly low with an estimated 90-100 known.
This very well worn example has a surprisingly natural appearance with a partially visible date and motto plus the vestiges of the tiny mintmark.
This almost certainly the most worn 1866-S With Motto half eagle known and it would make an excellent companion piece in a collection of high grade San Francisco half eagles.
