VERY CHOICE PCGS/CAC MS63 1806 HALF EAGLE

BD-6, R-2. Round or "Knobbed" 6, Stars Arranged 7x6.

In the Capped Bust Right half eagle series, the 1806 Round 6 is a "generic" issue but no date in this popular type is common in Mint State-63, especially not with enough eye appeal and originality to qualify for approval at CAC.

Housed in an older holder lacking the barcode on the front, this is a very choice coin for the grade with full mint frost below very pleasing rich natural golden-orange color which deepens at the borders. There are some light scuffs in the obverse fields but I have seen inferior (and less original) coins in MS64 holders.

The last PCGS MS63 1806 Round 6 half eagle with CAC approval to sell at auction brought $31,725 as Heritage 9/13: 6758. Stacks Bowers 2/13: 4180 was also graded MS63 by PCGS but lacked CAC approval; it realized a strong $38,188.

For most advanced collectors, this is the highest grade Capped Bust Right half eagle that makes "sense" and a CAC approved PCGS MS64--if available--would cost in excess of $50,000.

CAC has approved 15 in this grade with 21 finer.
