GEM 1864 THREE CENT SILVER: OGH AND CAC

Housed in an old green label holder.

Only 12,000 business strike 1864 Three Cent Silver pieces were produced and survivors tend to come either lightly circulated or very nice. There are some really superb coins known with some as high as MS68 but said coin are priced at over $20,000 when available which seems like a ton of money for a Trime.

This frosty white Gem is naturally untoned save for a wisp of light champagne gold at the lower obverse. It is an obvious business strike as evidenced by the full mint frost and distinctly clashed dies. I feel this coin would grade MS66 if resubmitted as it has awesome overall eye appeal and extra clean surfaces.

The last PCGS/CAC MS65 example of an 1864 Trime to cross the auction block was this exact coin; see below for more information.

At under $3,000 this nifty little coin seems like great value to me.

CAC has approved 2 in this grade with 11 finer.

Ex Heritage 2013 ANA: 3291 where it sold for a strong $5,288.
