PCGS/CAC APPROVED AU53 1842-O QUARTER EAGLE

The 1842-O is one of the scarcer quarter eagles from New Orleans. It is not often seen above the AU53 to AU55 range and many examples of this issue are extremely weakly struck.

This semi-reflective example shows russet hues which are deeper on the obverse than on the reverse. It is an early die state with extremely sharp central detail on both sides and none of the die lapping and/or cracks seen on the less-desirable later state coins.

Only one PCGS AU53 1842-O quarter eagle has sold at auction since 2004 and it realized $1,725 as Stacks Bowers 6/11: 9239.

This uncommonly well struck 1842-O should appeal to the collector of New Orleans quarter eagles.

CAC has approved this 1 coin in AU53 with another 10 in higher grades.
