AFFORDABLE COLLECTOR GRADE 1838-D HALF EAGLE
Variety 1-A.
Due to its status as a one-year type and a first-year-of-issue, the 1838-D is one of the most in-demand half eagles from Dahlonega. It isn't really scarce in collector grades but it is not often available for sale, especially in straight-graded PCGS holders.
This coin shows extensive but even wear with natural orange-gold color and a pleasing "circulated cameo" appearance. The assigned grade is spot on with the obverse, as usual, a bit sharper than the reverse.
The only comparable APR in close to a decade is Heritage 7/12: 4848, graded VF25 and approved by CAC, which realized $6,325.
This is one of the nicer collector grade 1838-D half eagles that I have offered in some time.
