GOLD CAC STICKER 1860 DOUBLE EAGLE
Housed in an old green label holder; I grade this coin a solid AU55 by today's standards if not even a bit finer.
The 1860 is a much scarcer date than the 1861 but it doesn't sell for a premium over this date due to the 1861's Civil war issuance. The 1860 is not often seen above AU55 to AU58 and not often with natural color and choice surfaces.
This coin is a poignant reminder of just how tough grading standards used to be. There is minimal wear and both sides are covered with lovely natural golden color which is accentuated by deeper hues on the relief details.
This is the only 1860 double eagle to earn the coveted Gold Sticker at CAC and it is likely to be the object of much interest as soon as it posts live on my website.
CAC has approved just this one coin for the date with a gold sticker.
