CONDITIONALLY SCARCE PCGS/CAC MS61 1852 DOUBLE EAGLE

Normal Date variety.

The 1852 is among the more available non-shipwreck issues in the Type One double eagle series. It is scarce in the lower Uncirculated grades and most of the coins graded MS60 to MS62 are not original and have significant eye appeal issues.

This piece is fresh to the market and it has a wonderfully natural appearance with full, frosty luster seen below medium orange-gold color with deeper accents on the relief details. There are some scuffs in the left obverse field and on the portrait which are consistent with the assigned grade. This is a really wholesome coin with a great overall "look."

The last MS61 1852 double eagle with CAC approval to sell at auction was an NGC piece which brought $9,988 as Heritage 4/15: 5423. Stacks Bowers sold two PCGS/CAC MS61's in 2014 for $11,750 and $10,281, respectively.

For most collectors, this exemplary MS61 will be a perfect type coin to represent the popular Type One Liberty Head double eagle.

CAC has approved 17 in this grade with 10 finer.
