NICE AU 1848-D QUARTER EAGLE

Variety 10-N.

The 1848-D is among the most available quarter eagles from the Dahlonega mint. This fact, coupled with its typically good strike, makes it popular with type collectors.

The obverse shows a medium green-gold hue while the revere has a rich reddish patina at the border. Both sides are well-detailed and show just a few small, stray marks which are consistent with the grade.

Only two PCGS AU53 examples of this date have sold at auction since the end of 2011 and they realized $2,875 and $3,220.

Here is a nice, affordable but comparatively high grade D mint quarter eagle which will make some collector an ideal type representative.
