The 1847-C is, by a large margin, the most available Charlotte quarter eagle. It is relatively plentiful even in the higher AU grades but most coins in 55 and 58 holders have been dipped or cleaned and show poor eye appeal as a result.

This high end example shows deep, rich green-gold and orange coloration on the obverse and reverse. The strike is sharp and the planchet is smooth with none of the typically seen problems. Some luster peers through in the protected areas and the overall eye appeal is excellent for the date and grade.

The last AU55 to sell at auction was a non-CAC PCGS example that realized $3,114 as Stacks Bowers 11/13: 3522.

The originality and high quality of this coin make it a perfect type piece for the collector who wants a single high end Charlotte quarter eagle.

CAC has approved five in this grade with five finer.
