SCARCE 1883-CC HALF EAGLE IN AU50
Only 12,958 half eagles dated 1883-CC were made and this date is comparable in overall rarity to the 1884-CC. It becomes scarce in the lower AU grades, rare in the higher AU grades and it is extremely rare in Uncirculated. For most collectors, a nice AU50 to AU53 should suffice.
This example is well defined except for the neck feathers which show the usual weakness. The obverse is clean and choice with some nice russet hues at the edge; the reverse is clean with lots of luster for the assigned grade.
No PCGS AU50 1883-CC half eagle has been sold at auction since Heritage 1/04: 7002 which sold for a strong $4,888.
This is the best available quality for the date at under $4,000.
