The 1894-O is numismatically significant as the final year of issue for Liberty Head half eagles from the New Orleans mint. This date is not often seen finer thanMS60 to MS61 and most examples in this range are very abraded and noticeably "rubby."
This green-gold piece has some natural reddish color at the obverse border. It is frosty with less noticeable abrasions than normal.
Only two PCGS MS61 1894-O half eagles have sold at auction since May 2012 with the most recent of these bringing $1,888 as Heritage 7/14: 4624.
Just a dozen finer 1894-O half eagles have so far been graded by PCGS yet this date remains affordable in MS61.
