CAC APPROVED AU58 1851-C GOLD DOLLAR
The 1851-C is by far the most available gold dollar from the Charlotte mint. This makes it popular with type collectors, as it is affordable and obtainable in higher grades. AU58 examples are plentiful but many have been processed and nice, CAC-worthy pieces aren’t easy to locate.
This deep green-gold example shows excellent natural color atop clean, unadulterated surfaces. The strike is very sharp and there appears to be very little in the way of actual evidence of circulation. The eye appeal is outstanding.
The last CAC-approved AU58 1851-C gold dollar to sell at auction was a PCGS coin which realized $3,067 as Heritage 7/15: 4382.
This coin would make a great addition to a type set or it would work well in a higher grade Charlotte gold dollar set.
